Note: the taxon buphthalmi is sometimes regarded as a separate species.
The imagines are indistinguishable from the taxon carphodactyla, but the
larvae and pupae show differences. The nature of these differences
(modificatory or genetic) is currently unknown, and thus the status of
this taxon is unclear. I leave it in the synonymy of the present species
until more information about its biology and genetics become available.
Note: the taxon inulaevorus is sometimes regarded as a separate species.
However, there are no significant differences between this taxon and
the taxon carphodactyla and most authors currently regard the two as
synonyms. I leave it in the synonymy of the present species until more information about its biology and genetics become available.
