Subspecies
The subspecific structure
of this species is unclear. The taxon Catoptria vilarrubiae Agenjo,
1954, described from Spain might be a
valid subspecies. Similarly, the populations from the Balcans might
represent
a separate subspecies Ganev, 1987.

Distribution
All of Europe.
Exact distribution unclear, doubtful records also exist from Asia. In
Germany recorded from Nordrhein-Westfalen (only older records), Hessen
(probably extinct), Rheinland-Pfalz, Baden-Württemberg, Bayern,
Saarland, and Sachsen (only older records).
