Subspecies
(1) Platycercus eximius eximius
(2) Platycercus eximius diemenensis
(3) Platycercus eximius ceciliae
(4) Platycercus eximius splendidus

Several subspecies occur in Australia. Often the captive birds are attributed to the subspecies ceciliae, but in fact the domesticated forms in Europe are a mixture of several subspecies and thus cannot be attributed to one of the natural forms.
