Subspecies
|
No
subspecies are recognized. Several
subspecies have been described, but
these are now either synonymized with
the nominate form (see list below) or
have been elevated to species rank. Bufo variabilis,
previously regarded as a synonym of Bufo
viridis, is now regarded as a separate
species.

Note: Bufo balearicus Boettger, 1880
(from Spain and Italy) is a separate
species. It has previously been
regarded as a subspecies or synonym of
Bufo viridis or Bufo variabilis.
Similarly, all previous Asian
subspecies are now regarded as
separate species. Bufo viridis is
therefore a monotypic species (without
subspecies).
Note: Bufo viridis has been placed in
its own genus Pseudepidalea by Frost
et al. 2006. This is not
followed here (see notes under Bufo calamita).
