Subspecies
This is an American species which has been introduced deliberately into Europe. It is unclear which subspecies has been introduced, but the original stocks likely belonged to the two most common subspecies in America: Sciurus carolinensis carolinensis and Sciurus carolinensis pennsylvanicus, and the populations in Europe likely are genetically a mixture of the two subspecies.
