Determination
Geographical Origin of Potato Tuber based on Elements Composition
Potato
is one of the major food crops grown in a wide variety of soils and
climatic conditions. Many research were conducted to improve the
quality of potatoes through different types and rates of
fertilization. These research used different cultivars and different
growth locations which affected the quality of potato tuber.
There is growing interest in research related to identification of
the geographic origin of commercial articles, including a wide range
of agricultural food products. It is recognized that the element
compositions of agriculture products are distorted reflection of the
element compositions in the soil and environment in which the plant
grows. Moreover, macro and micro elements, which are needed by
potato plant, might have correlation with the quality parameters of
potato tuber. Therefore, it is interesting to determine the
geographical origin of potato tuber based on elements composition
and to find out the correlation between elements in potato tuber,
and moreover, the correlation between elements and the quality
parameters of potato tuber.
Objectives
- To profile the elements
composition of several cultivars of potato tuber from several
different growth locations
- To study the relationship between
elements composition and quality parameters of several cultivars
of potato tuber
- To determine the geographical
origin of potato tuber based on its macro and micro elements
