Distribution
This species is widely distributed in
Africa, Asia and south-eastern Europe. It frequently reaches
Central Europe with migratory birds, but has not been able to
establish stable populations; however, in recent years there are
accumulating reports of this species from Central Europe, and
recent finds of several adult specimens at different locations
in Germany in early summer (Press release by Hohenheim
University [

Germany.
Biology
The species is an important vector for
several animal and human pathogens, including CCHF-Virus
(Krim-Congo-Fever), Alkhurma-Virus (Arabian haemorrhagic fever),
and Rickettsia aeschlimannii (Moroccan tick bite fever) (
Raoult
et al. 2002).
