Imagines can be found from spring until summer (usually early April to August) and feed on the flowers of Aegopodium (bishop´s weed) and other Apiaceae species, Sorbus (e.g. rowan), Crataegus (hawthorn), Prunus (e.g. cherry, plum), and Pyrus (pear). They consume not only polled and nectar, but also eat the reproductive organs, thus causing significant damage to the plants. The species can become a pest species of cherry, pear and plum in years when it occurs in large masses. Oviposition takes place in June and July, but it is currently unclear whether the eggs enter diapause, or if the species overwinters at the larval or imaginal stage.
