salicicola. Photo courtesy of Antje Schäper, used with permission.
This is an invasive species, originally native to southern Europe, but
recently recorded from several places in Central Europe, probably
imported together with ornamental plants. The species feeds on a number
of broad-leaf plants, including Forsythia (Forsythia spp.), Ivy (Hedera
spp.) and Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus). Despite its scientific
name, there is no specific correlation between the species and willows.
