Synonyms
Arpidiphorus orbiculatus
Aspidiphorus orbiculatus
The spelling Arpidiphorus has nomenclatural priority, but the spelling
Aspidiphorus is in prevailing usage. I am currently unaware of a ruling by
the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature.
Identification
A tiny beetle, body length 1.2 - 1.5 mm. Dark brown or blackish
appearance, but the legs and the bases of the antennae are yellow-brown.
The clubs of the antennae are dark.

Biology
The beetles feed on diverse slime molds (e.g. genera Stemonitis,
Fuligo). The species often occurs together with the second German species of
Sphindidae, Sphindus dubius, with which it shares a similar
biology. The species sometimes flies in large swarms in the evenings.
