Systematics and Phylogeny
Older works recognize two separate families, Sphindidae and
Aspidiphoridae, but this renders the Sphindidae paraphyletic according
to the phylogeny by McHugh (1993) (Fig. 1). Therefore, both families are
currently united as one family Sphindidae.
