Syrphus postclaviger carpathicus Stys et Moucha, 1962
Note:
Locke and Skevington (2013)
include this species in their "Dasysyrphus intrudens species complex".
These authors write that this complex obviously consists of several
species in the holarctic region, but the species boundaries cannot be
defined yet and therefore they do not differentiate any species within
the complex. I agree that this species complex very likely contains
multiple closely related species, but I do not adopt the lumping of the
hitherto described species into an undifferentiated "superspecies". The
European members of the "Dasysyrphus intrudens species complex" have so
far been grouped together in the species Syrphus friuliensis, and
therefore I keep this taxon here. It will be interesting to see whether
the European species in fact comprises several cryptic species, or if
the European species is identical to one of the multiple nearctic
species.
