Note: the name Dasysyrphus lunulatus has previously been applied to the
species now called Dasysyrphus pinastri (see there). However, by
lectotype selection,
Locke and Skevington (2013)
fixed the species-group name pinastri with the species formerly called
"Dasysyrphus lunulatus". The true lunulatus is in fact identical with
the present species and is included in its synonymy.
Note: several taxa described from the USA and Canada were previously
considered as synonyms of the present species (e.g. disgregus,
laticaudatus, intrudens, osburni) (
Vockeroth 1986). I follow here
Locke and Skevington (2013) who have removed these taxa from synonymy and regard these taxa as cryptic species in a larger species complex.
