Biology
Due to the previous confusion with Blondelia nigripes, the biology of
the present species is incompletely known. It is an exclusive parasitoid
of the pine processionary moth species Thaumetopoea pinivora and
Thaumetopoea ispartaensis.
Bergstrom and Bystrowski (2011) summarize all available data and suggest that the species is univoltine and
adults may be found mainly in May, June and July, but a few specimens
have also been reported in August and September. Females deposit one to
three eggs per host larva. The parasitoid larva lives inside the host
larva until the host larva moves into the ground and forms a cocoon
during pupation. Then the parasitoid kills the pupa and apparently pupates inside the host cocoon and overwinters as a pupa inside the host cocoon.
