Ponera testacea (Emery, 1895)
Lectotype selected by Csosz and Seifert (2003). Lectotype locality: Bonifacio (Corsica, France).
The taxon has been described as a "variety" of Ponera coarctata, but has been elevated to species rank by
Csosz and Seifert (2003). These authors argue that the two taxa differ slightly in morphology and also show some ecological differences.

Biology
The biology of this species is very similar to the
biology of Ponera coarctata. However, it seems to be more dependent on
dry and hot habitats than Ponera coarctata and it also prefers dry soil
types (e.g. limestone, silicate rock and sand). Unlike Ponera coarctata,
Ponera testacea does not occur in woodland.
