- Identification of Clostridia
- Immunobiology of Clostridia
- Diagnosis of Clostridioses
- Treatment and Prevention of Clostridioses

INSTRUCTIONS FOR
AUTHORS
Abstracts (papers and posters)
Delegates intending to present either papers or posters are requested to submit abstracts in a reproducable form until 15 June 1998. Kindly indicate the intended sectional session for presentation. Please note that the maximum time for the presentation of papers will be 10 minutes, followed by a 5 minutes discussion. The posters will be displayed during the whole meeting.
Please follow the instructions carefully:
- Abstracts must be submitted in English according to the abstract form.
- Abstracts should be typed preferably on computer; the font should be
- Arial with single spacing. Use an asterisk for the person (authors) who will give the presentation. For more detailed information see abstract sheet.
- You are kindly asked to send your abstract on a diskette, preferably using Word for Windows 6.0 or Rich Text Format together with a correct print-out.
- Alternately you may send your abstract by e-mail, but please respect the mentioned instructions.
- Abstracts sent by Fax will not be accepted
- In case you do not send a diskette, the submitted abstract will be used directly for reproduction. Please do not fold the form and ensure a highly printed quality.

Seifert*, K. Rieke and H. Böhnel We have reported on the difficulties involved in classifying pathogens of the enterotoxaemia and gas oedema complex derived from field material especially in samples from tropical locations to the known reference strains using conventional bacteriological methods. Analysis by gas chromatography of the short and long chain fatty acids formed metabolically in standardized media and of washed whole-cell hydrolysates, has in the meantime been employed routinely to obtain additional criteria. These data, however, are not sufficient for classifying field material and reference strains unambiguously. Field material from tropical locations cannot be adequately determined using the very simplified and largely schematic outline of the fatty acid patterns of pathogenic and apathogenic anaerobes as published by Holdeman et.al. in the nature of an atlas in its newly revised form. It is impossible to classify a field strain by visual comparison with the chromatograms of the reference strains in the atlas. Previous bacteriological determination and categorization does not help in this respect either. Special difficulties are encountered in tropical locations during the differentiation of pathogens of the gas oedema group which are related to C.chauvoei in their symptomology and epizootology. |

Please do not forget to fill in the "Scientific Contribution Form" as well!
Confirmation for papers and posters
The scientific committee reserves the right of final selection, it will judge acceptance of the abstracts for oral or poster sessions. Authors will get a confirmation for their scientific presentation to be held either as oral presentation or poster. Deadline: 15 July 1998.
Posters
A board of 100 x 150 (WxH) will be available for each poster. The text should be readable from a distance of 1.5 meters from the display board.
Abstract Book
The submitted and accepted abstracts will be available at the beginning of the conference as abstract book.
Publication of full presentations
Please submit your full presentation as diskette and/or as 3 printed copies to the Conference secretary at the conference site. The full presentation should include: abstract, introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and references. Maximum volume: 5 printed pages per presentation. But please wait until your abstract will be accepted. Further information on publication details will then be made available for you.
Proceedings
Proceedings will be published,
containing plenary lecture, key note speeches, and accepted oral
and poster presentations.
Please note that your presentation will only be published if your
paper or poster is submitted on time and is presented during the
respective sessions.
The
editors of FEMS agreed that the conference proceedings
will be published in FEMS Immunology & Medical
Microbiology. For more information on the Federation of European Microbiological Societies, please go to http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/fems. |
