Synonyms
Stigmella stettinensis (Von Heinemann, 1871)
Identification
This species is very similar to Stigmella minusculella, and in fact both taxa have long been regarded as synonyms.
Distribution
Fig. 1: Distribution map of Stigmella stettinensis in Germany.
The two taxa Stigmella minusculella and Stigmella stettinensis
apparently show a vicariant distribution: Stigmella minusculella is
predominantly distributed in western Europe, whereas Stigmella
stettinensis is distributed mainly in eastern Europe. However, there are
also areas where the range of both species overlaps. The present
species is known from Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia and also
occurs around the Baltic Sea (so far recorded from Lithuania and
Denmark) (
Haslberger et al. 2016).
Haslberger et al. 2016 report the species also from Germany (three specimens collected near Landshut
and Passau, Bayern).
Biology
The larvae mine in leaves of pear (Pyrus communis).
