Subspecies
(1) Drymonia querna querna
(2) Drymonia querna djezina
An additional subspecies might be present in the
south of Europe (see below under Synonyms). Only the nominate form
occurs in Germany.

Bombyx querna Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775
Drymonia querna (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775)
Drymonia querna querna (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775)
Drymonia querna alphitochros Zerny, 1927 (unclear synonymy; see note below)
Drymonia querna sausalica Daniel, 1968
Drymonia danieli Hartig, 1970 (unclear synonymy)
Drymonia querna meridioitalica Hartig, 1970 (unclear synonymy)
The populations from Spain, Italy and Greece differ from the Central
European populations by the high number of light-colored specimens. This
indicates a shift in allelic frequency of this character and thus a
limited gene flow between South and Central European populations. The
southern populations might therefore represent a separate subspecies for
which the name Drymonia querna alphitochros is available.
