Biology
The larva feeds on dead plant materials, mainly leaf litter, but also decaying wood from conifers, and frequently reported from haystacks and hay barns.
It has also been found in bird´s nests and thus might also feed on
feathers. The larvae live in silk tubes which they camouflage with
excrement. Adults can be found from July to September, in a single
generation per year.
A locally common species that is only rarely found in or near buildings.
During the day the imagines hide in shrubs or stone coves; they fly on
warm evenings at sunset and dusk, but are not specifically attracted by
artificial light sources.
